🧠Renew Your Mind: A Lesson for Back Burner Moms | 92

Hey Reader,

When it comes to caring for those around me, I like to think it’s one of my biggest strengths.

But.

When it comes to taking care of myself? That’s my biggest weakness.

I was texting my sister recently and called us “back burner people.” Her response was, “We’ve allowed that.”

If I’m being honest, I was really put off by her response. But then I thought about it and realized she was right.

We could blame the people who shaped us over the years. But the reality is: we’re grown adults, and we get to decide whether we stay on the back burner.

And I’ve seen what happens when I do.

The more I tried to get validation from the people around me instead of from God, the worse my mental health became.

Even now, sitting here teaching moms how to teach their children about faith and God, I still struggle. Not sure if that makes me less credible to you, but if someone tells you they’re doing it perfectly and you can too? I wouldn’t trust them. No one does this perfectly. And that’s the point.

We are to do our best. And when we fall short, because we’re human and we all will, God’s grace covers us.

We may not be front burner people to those around us, or even to ourselves most of the time, but we are all front burner people to God.

He loves us. He cares for us, and He delights in us.

If you’ve been living on the back burner, take it to God in prayer today and ask Him to renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Stay rooted in Him always.

PODCAST COMMUNITY LESSON PLANS RESOURCES BLOG HEY Reader, We started potty training our three-year-old, Finnegan, this weekend… If you’ve been there, you already know. And when I say “we,” I (thankfully) mean my husband. My “job” was to take Maximus out of the house for at least four hours while Mike tackled potty training. As a SAHM, I do a lot with the boys, especially now that we’re homeschooling. I’m teaching and guiding them through so many things that Mike wanted to take something on...

PODCAST COMMUNITY LESSON PLANS RESOURCES BLOG HEY Reader, This past week was ROUGH. Both kids were recovering from norovirus, and then it hit me. It knocked me out for a couple of days, and heavens, I'm still recovering. Thankfully, I have an incredibly supportive husband who let me rest all day Sunday and worked from home Monday so I could sleep in and nap. What a blessing. And even though I'm still on the mend, I can see the purpose in it. I know that sounds a little silly. Everyone gets...

PODCAST BIBLE STUDY COMMUNITY RESOURCES BLOG HEY Reader, Saying goodbye to former dreams is very difficult. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted my life to look like. What I would create. How I would live each day. What I would write. How I would give glory to God. But as life has drastically changed these past two months (praise GOD and thank you, Jesus), I recognized how much I was being pulled in a million different directions. Many of them were directions I could never actually follow....
