Hey Reader,
I am doing my best to do zero work on the weekends.
Sure, I clean up, do laundry, and handle the normal, everyday household chores. But working on my business? It needs to take a backseat.
Weekends are for family time in my house. And while my kids are still young enough to enjoy being with me, I want to really focus on being a present mom. So this weekend, we went HARD.
Being a local Floridian has its perks, especially with a husband who works for Disney.
We spent Saturday at Magic Kingdom, and Sunday, after church, we spent the day at Animal Kingdom! We frequently go to Magic Kingdom, but it had been about a year since we'd been to Animal Kingdom. And this trip? It was probably the most fun I have ever had at a Disney theme park, and that's REALLY saying something…
My boys are four and two, and their favorite TV show on the entire planet, just like most kids in this age group, is Bluey. But same though. Am I right?
Well, they started doing a fun Bluey and Bingo playtime show at Animal Kingdom, and I KNEW we needed to go.
We hopped on the train, both boys eagerly pointing to Bluey and Bingo on their maps, and then the music started. The Bluey theme song, with Robert Irwin doing the train intro. My Crocodile Hunter-loving heart couldn't hold back nostalgic tears!
The playtime show was literally the most exciting thing either of my boys has ever done in their little lives. Before, Max would have been crying, screaming, covering his ears, begging to leave. Instead, he and Finn played Limbo, Octopus, and Keepy Uppy with their favorite characters. Ever.
When it was time to go, both boys left without a problem, and we went on our way to Kilimanjaro Safaris.
Then we got to the car… and Finnegan erupted.
Inconsolable.
Wouldn't even put his foot inside the car for the automatic door to stay shut in our minivan.
I went back and tried to talk to him. He calmed down some but kept screaming, his beloved park map in his hand, looking at the rides we rode, counting them out on his finger.
But every single time he saw Bluey and Bingo on his map, he started screaming all over again.
And looking back now, if that's not like us trying to look at God's will for our lives, I don't know what is!
When we look at a zoomed-out version of our lives, it really is like a park map. Every place we have ever been, places we might see in the future, and even some places we don't really want to go.
Maybe the Bluey area is the place you miss that you had to walk away from to walk in God's will. Or maybe that's what God has shown you for your life. The place you want to go so badly, but you know you have to do all the other steps to get there first.
Either makes you want to cry and maybe scream. Because it's something you want so badly. But just like Mike and I knew Bluey and Bingo had left for the day and that a storm was coming in, while Finnegan only saw us holding him back from something he wanted,
God knows things that we don't.
And there is so much that God has protected us from, is protecting us from, and will protect us from.
That is why we need to trust in Him. He knows best.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6)
And when He tells us something He wants us to know, we need to listen. Because there's a lot He's protecting us from.
God is gentle with us.
We may want to take the train. But we don't know that it's about to pour rain, only to end up at a closed Bluey and Bingo playtime show. And if it feels like God is holding you back from something right now, you don't know what He is actually protecting you from.
